# Norfolk Advanced Motorcyclists
Norfolk Advanced Motorcyclists (NAM) is a registered charity and Institute of Advanced Motorists affiliate dedicated to elevating riding standards and promoting road safety among motorcyclists across Norwich and Norfolk. Since 1984, the organisation has fostered a community of around 200 members spanning teenage riders to experienced septuagenarians, united by their passion for motorcycling excellence.
NAM serves both aspiring and experienced riders who want to progress beyond basic competency. They support members in achieving IAM Advanced Rider status whilst emphasising that skill development extends well beyond formal certification. The organisation welcomes riders of all bike types—from commuter motorcycles to adventure bikes, cruisers and classic machines.
What distinguishes NAM is their structured, community-driven approach to rider development. They organise weekly group rides every Sunday from Thickthorn McDonald's in Norwich, with pre-planned routes published on their website and bi-monthly newsletter. These rides serve dual purposes: enabling full members to maintain IAM test standards and providing associate members with practical experience alongside their one-to-one observer sessions.
Beyond formal training, NAM offers a vibrant social dimension to motorcycling. Members participate in track-training days, off-road experiences, touring opportunities and race schools. Regular ride-outs, occasional weekend trips and international adventures (passport required) create a supportive community where riders genuinely enjoy progressive motorcycling together.
